The idyllic atmosphere in the mountain village Alpbach „Austria Most beautiful Village“, which title was awarded mainly for its homogenous building style, the small historic town Rattenberg and the picturesque landscape of the Kitzbüheler Alps as well as other attractions all contribute towards a happy memorable holiday.

Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau

The Tyrol is a popular area for spending ones skiing holidays in and the Alpbachtal is an excellent choice with 145 km pistes (109 km fall line), great panoramic views of the surrounding peaks of the Kitzbüheler Alps and cosy huts to relax in.

Alpbach - Austria’s Most Beautiful Village

At 1000 m above sea level time seems to have stood still in the mountain village of Alpbach. Some say it was love at first sight. The beautiful farmhouses, all built in the traditional wooden building style are bound to make hearts melt. The village (without through traffic) was awarded the title „Austria’s Most Beautiful Village“ and „ Europe´s most beautiful flower village"!


With just 400 inhabitants Rattenberg is Austria´s smallest town and is well known for glass craft. The medieval pedestrian zone is dominated by the unique artistic displays of glass in the numerous shops. The Rattenberg Advent and the guided tours are popular Rattenberg fixtures.

Congress Centrum Alpbach

Annually every August the European Forum Alpbach welcomes thousands of participants to the event. The Congress Centrum has been presented several awards and is THE role model for Green Meetings.

Alpbachtal Seenland Cultural Gems

  • Tyrol’s largest open-air museum the Museum of Tyrolean Farmhouses where the motto is: "Discover the Tyrol on a 1,5 hour walk"
  • The "Lustige Friedhof" is a popular excursion destination for groups – a graveyard where nobody is buried. The cemetery has a collection of beautiful wrought iron crosses with inscriptions (in German).
  • The Augustinian Museum in Rattenberg shows a collection of Tyrolean art treasures from 9 centuries and is home to the only church tower in the Tyrol that is open to the public.
  • Matzen Park – the beautiful park grounds where designed according to an English landscape park. One of Tyrol’s most beautiful and culturally valuable landscapes, several walking paths cross through the park.

Natures Amazing Gorges

A hike through a gorge is a unique experience. The rhythmic sound of the gushing waters can be very relaxing. Today the gorges are home to beautiful hiking paths in the past they were used for timber transportation.

Rofan Range/Sonnwendjoch

A walk to Lake Zirein in the Rofan Range is one of the Alpbachtal Seenland hikes that shouldn’t be missed. The hiking tour in stages up to the ice cold, crystal clear mountain lake is amazing. The rugged Rofan Range with its prominent Sagzahn peak is unmistakable.

Wiedersbergerhorn & Reither Kogel

The Wiedersbergerhorn & Reither Kogel are ideal peaks for families. Both peaks can be accessed with the Wiedersbergerhorn and Reitherkogelbahn gondolas respectively bringing hikers within easy reach of the peaks. The outdoor play area Lauserland on the Wiedersbergerhorn and Juppi Zauberwald on the Reitherkogel are great places to play in. Of course the hiking area offers many other great walks.

Tyrols warmest bathing lakes

Besides the cold mountain lakes the Tyrol also has some lovely warm bathing lakes and Lake Reintal and Krumm in Kramsach are two popular lakes for swimmers and water lovers. The lake in Reith im Alpbachtal is situated at the heart of Reith village centre. The idyllic Lake Berglstein is nestled in a romantic secluded forest clearing.
