UCI Road World Championships 2018 start location Alpbachtal 

8 days, 12 races, 1000 athletes: the road world championships 2018 will lead riders along different routes transforming the Tyrol into the heart of cycling sports. On two days Rattenberg, Austria's smallest town, will be in the limelight.

From 22nd - 30th September 2018 thousands of spectators are expected to line the road world championship race routes in the Tyrol.

TV live coverage broadcast will reach an audience of 250 mi. in 130 countries. An estimated 500.000 spectators are expected to come to the Tyrol to witness the races live. The UCI Road World Championship 2018 is pedicted to become one of the most difficult cycling championships of all times. The professional riders need to overcome 5.000 metres of altitude difference and challenging distances in the Tyrol

The routes of the in total 12 races lead through the Alpbachtal Seenland, Ötztal, Hall-Wattens and Kufstein regions before finishing in the heart of the regional capital, Innsbruck.

The Alpbachtal Seenland region is taking advantage of the world championships event as an initial spark to further develop the cycling and biking infrastructure in all its facets by 2018. Trails will be bought up to newest standards and any necessary innovations for cycling enthusiasts will be implemented.

The region offers and ideal mix of exciting bike tours from flat Inn Valley trails to challenging routes in the Rofan Range and the Kitzbüheler Alps.

About Rattenberg, the glass town

Rattenberg lies nestled in-between the mountain face with the juxtaposed castle ruin and the River Inn. With just 400 inhabitants and a surface area of 10 ha Rattenberg is Austria´s smallest historical town. The medieval pedestrian zone is dominated by the unique displays of glass craft in the numerous shops.

Rattenberg has almost entirely preserved its medieval townscape with its particular flair attracts visitors throughout the year. The best way to discover that even a small town can be enchanting is on a stroll through the charming pedestrian zone with its narrow alleyways, colourful building facades, turrets and the medieval castle ruin. The town is home to cafés and shops selling glass crafts.
