Dog-Friendly Weekend Getaway to Alpbach

Alpbach is the perfect dog-friendly weekend getaway. Recognized as the “most beautiful village in Austria,” Alpbach serves as an ideal base for a weekend of hiking and sightseeing or relaxing and dining in an atmosphere of unique wooden buildings and balconies adorned with flowers.

Hotel Alpbacherhof - the perfect spot for you and your furry friend!

Dog-friendly Hotels

Many hotels in Alpbach are dog-friendly, but Hotel Alpbacherhof rises above them all. Once inside the hotel, you’ll quickly see how they earned their 4-star rating. Dark mahogany wooden walls, a spectacular view over the valley from the bar area, and the spacious, newly-renovated rooms are just a few of the features that make this hotel the perfect spot for you and your furry friend.

While the dining room at Hotel Alpbacherhof is not pet-friendly, your dog can relax back in your guest room while you enjoy a tasty multi-course meal in the intimate dining room. If you’d rather take your pet with you, venture out into the village where you will find many other dining options along the streets of Alpbach.

Sunrise hikes and panorama paths with your dog

Dog-friendly Hikes

Enjoy some fresh mountain air with your dog along the hiking trails surrounding Alpbach. You’ll find the sunrise hike to Gratlsptiz Summit to be the perfect beginning to your day. The best place to begin the hike is from the parking lot near Berggasthof Holzalm. It’ll take about an hour to reach the summit, so I recommend starting 1.5-2 hours before sunrise.

Another dog-friendly hike is the Weidersbergerhorn Panorama Path. You can take the lift up for free by using your Alpbachtal Seenland card, which is provided at every accommodation in the region. (You’ll need to pay 3€ roundtrip for your pet, as dogs are not included on the card.) The views from the Panorama Path are jaw dropping. If you’re up for a bit of a challenge, take a detour to the summit and enjoy the views of the surrounding Alps. End the hike with a delicious lunch at Berggasthof Hornboden.

Excellent hiking, fine dining, and a relaxing time with (or without) your furry companions...

Towns to Visit in Alpbachtal

If you’re looking to venture out to the other Alpbachtal areas, I recommend exploring the medieval town of Rattenberg and the village of Reith im Alpbachtal.
Rattenberg is Austria’s smallest town and has a great pedestrian zone that features cafes, restaurants, and shops displaying their hand-blown glass. A stroll along the river path with your dog in the evening is the perfect addition to your visit.
Reith im Alpbachtal, a village adorned in flowers, is a must-see. Each September they hold the famous Almabtrieb event that draws participants from far and wide. This village is perfectly photogenic!

A weekend-getaway to Alpbach, Austria promises to provide excellent hiking, fine dining, and a relaxing time at the best hotels in the area, with (or without) your furry companions.
Add visiting the incredible mountain village of Alpbach to your bucket list — you won’t be disappointed!
