Matzen Castle Park

This park is considered one of the most beautiful and valuable cultural landscapes in the Tyrol.

Our Favorite Place:

The Lion Pond with a view of Matzen Castle

The castle is surrounded by a magnificent park, which is still privately owned. It was designed in the English style on commission from Baron von Lipperheide. The park includes two artificially created ponds: the Lion Pond and the Carp Pond with the so-called Nympheum, and many of the over 40 exotic trees and shrubs still date back to the time of the park's creation.

Walking & Hiking

The Matzen Castle Park is ideal for walks followed by a visit to the Restaurant Gut Matzen with a view of the castle. There are also numerous hiking trails around the Matzen Park. Whether it's a family hike to the castle park or a tour of the castles – Matzen Castle is now operated as a hotel and, together with the surrounding castles and ruins, such as Schloss Lipperheide, Schloss Lichtwehr, and the Kropfsberg Ruin, always makes for a worthwhile stop. Further hiking trails lead you from the castle park up to Reith im Alpbachtal.
