St. Virgil Parish Church

The church stands on the southern edge of Rattenberg on a small hill in front of the Schlossberg, which rises directly behind it.

The immediate proximity to the steeply sloping Schlossberg terrain and the spatial constriction of the building site resulted in some special features in the church building itself.

The churches origins are Gothic. It was built between 1473 and 1506 and acquired its present baroque architectural style in the 18th century. The main artistic features are the so called "Annenaltar" in the Southern choir’s stalls with its statues, the vault frescoes by S.B. Faistenerger and Matthäus Günther and the Lourdes-shrine.
