A first church in Radfeld is documented to have existed as early as the year 788. After this was likely constructed as a wooden building, it was replaced during the Romanesque period by a stone building. Under master builder Gilg Sewer, a massive redesign of the church took place in the years 1484/90. Hardly anything remained of the predecessor building except for the northern exterior wall.
Essentially, the church still presents its late Gothic appearance today. On the exterior, however, the tower capping was renewed in 1721 and adapted to the then-current Baroque design language.
On the inside, the late Gothic space shell has been preserved more or less unchanged. Only the furnishings were adapted multiple times to the respective taste of the times. The high altar, exuding a Baroque spirit, owes its appearance to a rearrangement of actually unrelated components carried out in 1975/76. At its center is a painting by Christoph Anton Mayr, depicting Saint Briktius. The two accompanying figures are works by Johann Paterer.
