Originally built as a tower fortress, Schloss Matzen was built in the 1600's. It is home to two wildlife filled ponds (the Löwenteich and the Karpfenteich) and the Nympheum, a historic stone structure built out over the Karpfenteich (Pike Pond). Many of the over 40 exotic trees and shrubs date back to the time the site was created.

Walk in the park

Numerous walking paths can be found around Matzen Park. Ideal for families is the walk through the park with the playground as a highlight. The Burgenwanderweg leads past Schloss Matzen, Lipperheide (Neumatzen) and the Lichtwehr castles and the Kropfsberg ruin.

Other paths lead from the park up to Reith im Alpbachtal.

Open daily 24h!

Free admission - open all year round!
